Eye Protection Safety Glasses – Examples of Situational Circumstances for Self Regulations

If there is a possibility while working or playing your eyes may incur an injury, “please wear protective lenses.” Eye Protection Safety Glasses is most people’s choice for protecting their eyes. Especially if you know you’ll be in an environment where it’s possible you will be exposed to any kind of eye hazardous material, particulates flying or possibly floating around.

A good rule of thumb is to take action and use protective eyewear at all times.

Often around the home, while playing, at the office or in an industrial environment, we don’t think there are any potential eye hazards. Or; we tend to ignore the side of common sense and convince ourselves by not enforcing self regulate policy of caution for ourselves or employees.

Certain areas or tasks around the yard or house, office, playground or job don’t require us to wear Eye Protection Safety Glasses. This is an easy fix and I believe a self-regulated policy should be implemented immediately. It is easy to implement a program, especially at work if you make available a variety of types, styles, and even Prescription Glasses and Safety Sunglasses so people will be able to perform the task at hand as expected.

Anyone who works in an industrial manufacturing environment knows there are many different possible flying objects from different work stations. There are things such as; dust, glass, wood, metal and various other particulates. Maintaining eye protection by using the proper glasses is an easy way to help keep someone from experiencing an eye injury.

As humans, our eyes are easily injured and require protection from certain tools, instruments, and work environments. This I believe is a normal evolution step towards a safe working environment. Solid materials pose the biggest threats to an individual’s eye safety.

I’d like to introduce the idea of non-physical situations like chemicals, radiation or biological hazards? Here one must avoid eye and skin injuries and make sure you don’t come into contact with any of these invisible threats.

The best way to protect yourself or employees is to make sure you use the proper type of safety lenses according to your government’s or industries recommended standards. Between you and me; I’d follow the one recommending the best feeling of security and safety.

Wearing the correct type of safety lenses is determined by all the possible threats or hazards to present either at work, play or sporting environment. Organizations who recommend eyewear all agree side shields or wrap-around protection should be worn when flying particulates are present.

Next; if chemicals are present there are different types of goggles available to form fit over the face and eye area to keep splashes and fumes away.

Finally, there may be radiation and biological hazards present. They make special protective equipment designed with face shields, helmets, face-masks with full-face respirators are available. Depending on the situation; choose wisely when protecting your eyes or eyes of your employees.

There are other ways to protect the eyes from injuries. Being aware of your work environment and surrounding area. Here are some tips! First, look around your work area. Assess where and what’s going on in the area you are working in. Ask yourself what type of work are you going to be performing? If you know there is a chance or possibility of particulates, inform other workers around you. This will give them a heads up as a reminder to wear their Safety Glasses while you are working.

Make sure if you need corrective lenses you use the right type of prescription safety glasses. If none available inform your supervisor or superior and ask what your next course of action should be.

There are two main reasons why people don’t wear eye protection. For most people they are; comfort and obstruction of site.

Following our theme; always caution on the side of safety. When purchasing eye protection lenses pick out a type that does the following! One; fit properly two; are comfortable three; use corrective lenses (if needed), four; look good on you when wearing, five; are they style type required to wear for the situation you are going to use them? Now; lastly and I believe just as important as all the others. Can I perform the task or job without them being a major annoyance?

Let’s do a quick review; make sure the type of glasses you are wearing meet the requirements of the hazards around you. Look out for yourself and be in charge of your eye protection and wearing proper safety glasses.

Don’t forget! There are general maintenance requirements just like any other piece of equipment and safety glasses are no different. I’d suggest taking good care of your safety glasses. If your lenses fog up and become a problem seeing while wearing them, you have several options. They make an anti-fog coating and in some lense types have ventilation openings (slots) on their side shields.

The invention of polycarbonate material has allowed manufacturers and designers to make impact-resistant designer style looking safety glasses. This material facilitates designers creating lenses and frames too that are lightweight, anti-fog and impact resistant. One of the benefits and cost savers for this type of lens is its durability and scratch resistant possible using this material.

Keep this in mind at all times when in any environment where you don’t know if wearing safety glasses is a good idea or not. Here’s a fact to remember! There are 2,000 or more reported eye injuries that occur every day. OSHA states that 90% of these could have been avoided if proper Eye Protection Safety Glasses were worn. So; from this professional! If there is any doubt in your mind if you should wear safety glasses or not; WEAR THEM.
