The year 2010 saw the launch of a new eyewear brand in the high-end fashion segment. Madonna, the pop sensation, teamed up with Dolce & Gabbana, the famous Italian luxury fashion house, to enter the fashionable eyewear industry. The event was also important because this was the first time the Italian style and fashion duo joined hands with a pop icon for a product.
This range of eyewear christened MDG is marketed under the MG Icon flagship umbrella, which is a joint venture between Madonna, Iconix Brand Group, and Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary. Only a couple of months before the launch of MDG eyewear, Madonna launched a new fashion line under the MG Icon brand in partnership with her daughter, Lourdes. The MDG range of eyewear is available online, as well as in 200 stores through Macy’s and other retailers.
Priced between $248 and $289, MDG eyewear is manufactured by Luxottica, the world’s largest eyewear company which produces designer eyewear for other top-end style and fashion brands as well.
As expected, the new line of eyewear has proved to be a hit with the fashion-conscious public. That said, you need to keep a few things in mind before you actually buy the latest designer eyewear that has been launched in the market:
- The fact is that the designer label is important to an extent only. There are things like the size of the glasses which is even more important. Glasses that are too big or too small do little to your style, and in many cases, may even change your appearance for the worse.
- Buy designer eyewear if you want to, but do shop around and then decide. Designer eyewear is available at big retailers which are sometimes committed to selling only one or two designer brands. There are other small retailers that stock almost every brand and offer them at a lesser price.
- What you actually need is equally, if not more, important than the brand itself. If you do not really like a high-end brand, then it is not worth buying its product. Moreover, you need to be in love with the eyewear you buy because it has a great impact on your looks. If you are loyal to a brand like Dolce & Gabbana, you may look for one of their other products, which are more suited to your style.
- Besides the brand, you also want to pay special attention to the shape of your eyewear. Make sure that the shape you choose complements your looks rather than attract attention. The shape that you pick should depend on the shape of your face. If you have a round face, buy oval glasses.
It is a good idea to buy designer eyewear because you are assured of the quality and you also get to make a fashion statement. However, eyewear is something that you should not buy casually. You have to first ensure that you are buying a product that is right for you.
