Prescription Swim Goggles

Prescription swim goggles protect the eyes from ailments such as eye infection, cornea inflation, pink eye, lumps inside the eye, seeing colored circles around the eye and other related diseases which might result in temporary, distorted or permanent blindness. These disorders or diseases are usually caused by excess exposure of the eye to chlorine. The silicon-based prescription swim goggles are especially created to shield the eyes from chlorine usually come in different variants of tinted lenses which also protects the eyes from the UV rays and sun rays when swimming outdoors.

They are basically responsible for letting you see things clearly underwater without having to wear goggles over lenses or glasses. Wearing goggles over glasses leads to an imbalance in the positioning of the goggles which leads to the water seeping into the goggles thereby not letting you see anything clearly. Most of the people prefer wearing lenses under their goggles to see things clearly. But this actually ends up affecting the eyes drastically. The lenses might come off if by chance water comes inside the goggles and also causes infection because of the bacteria and other microorganisms that gets stuck to the lenses.

Given below are a few things which should be considered while buying prescription swim goggles:

· Lenses: The prescription swim goggles should be brought to prescription. Buying random prescription swim goggles will end up distorting your vision even more underwater. There are two types of prescription swim goggles available, step diopter and custom goggles. Step diopter goggles are standard goggles manufactured by various companies with preset prescriptions. A person buys a goggle the closest to his own prescription. These goggles are OK for people who have below -8.00 powers or have astigmatism over -1.00. Even though a person can see better underwater with these goggles, but cannot achieve perfect vision. It is advised to choose a goggle with lesser power than the prescribed power of the eyes.

Custom goggles, on the other hand, are made to the exact specifications and prescription and is designed to fit you perfectly too. Most people with powers above -8.00 use the custom prescription goggles. The lenses should be tinted accordingly to protect the eyes from UV rays when swimming outdoors. The rubber band of the prescription swim goggles should be nicely sealed. The band should fit perfectly on the bone around the eyes to protect the eyes from the water seeping in.
